Public Opinion
Americans have grown increasingly concerned about global warming over the past three years, now ranking it the top environmental problem facing this nation, according to a recent MIT survey.
They’re so concerned that they’re even willing to spend some of their own money to fix the problem, the survey found. It showed that global warming rose from the middle of a list of environmental problems three years ago to the top of the list of concerns for Americans in 2006.
Almost 60 percent of Americans agreed that evidence of global warming had mounted sufficiently to warrant action to correct it. Most said they preferred using more wind and solar power to reduce greenhouse gases. However, they were more willing than they were three years ago to consider nuclear power and other alternatives.
