Global Warming and Sports
THE COMPETITION’S NOT THE ONLY THING HEATING UP IN SPORTS THESE DAYS - TUNE IN AS ATHLETES TACKLE THE CLIMATE CRISIS ON THIS ENVIRONMINUTE.
WHEN IT COMES TO SPREADING ECO-CONCIOUSNESS, MANY IN THE SPORTS WORLD ARE GETTING IN ON THE GAME. FOR EXAMPLE, ‘GO GREEN’ IS NO LONGER JUST A CHEER FOR THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - IT’S THE NAME OF THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN. SNOWBOARDERS ARE PART OF AN ACTION SPORTS ENVIRONMENTAL COALITION, AND THANKS TO THE OLYMPIC SPORT AND ENVIRONMENT COMMISSION, THE TWO-THOUSAND-EIGHT OLYMPICS WILL PROMOTE SUSTAINABILITY ALONGSIDE SPORTSMANSHIP.
MANY HOPE THAT SUCH ECO-ACTIONS WILL INSPIRE SPORTS FANS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. PERHAPS REPORTER ALEXANDER WOLFF SUMMED IT UP BEST IN HIS SPORTS ILLUSTRATED COVER STORY ON GLOBAL WARMING, “THIS GAME IS DIFFERENT,” HE SAID. “We don't have the luxury of looking on from the sidelines - We must become players too.”
